Privacy Policy

Introduction

Afri-Metrics Ltd (RC No. 8911463), operating afrimetrics.com and all associated services (collectively, "Afrimetrics," "we," "us," or "our"), is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have over it.

This Policy is issued in accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 ("NDPA") and applicable regulations issued by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission ("NDPC"). By using Afrimetrics, you consent to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

Data We Collect

a) Information you provide directly:

  • Account information name, email address, phone number, password (stored in hashed/encrypted form).
  • Portfolio and financial information you input for tracking purposes holdings, quantities, cost basis, transaction history, and related notes.
  • Payment information processed through our payment processor (see Section 5) Afrimetrics does not store your full card details.
  • Communications you send us (support requests, feedback, community posts).

b) Information collected automatically:

  • Device and usage data IP address, browser type, device identifiers, pages visited, time spent, and general usage patterns.
  • Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 7).

c) Information we do not treat as sensitive personal data under the NDPA: Your portfolio holdings and investment activity are financial information, not health, biometric, or similarly sensitive categories, but we still treat this data with heightened care given its financial nature.

How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

  • Provide and operate the platform, including portfolio tracking, analytics, and Pro subscription features.
  • Process payments and manage your subscription.
  • Communicate with you about your account, service updates, or support requests.
  • Improve the platform, including understanding usage patterns and diagnosing issues.
  • Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, or security incidents.
  • Comply with legal obligations, including recordkeeping requirements under Nigerian law.

We do not use your individual portfolio data to make investment recommendations targeted at you, and we do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Legal Basis for Processing

Under the NDPA, we process your personal data on the following bases:

  • Consent where you have explicitly agreed, such as at account signup or for optional marketing communications.
  • Contractual necessity where processing is required to provide the services you have subscribed to.
  • Legitimate interest for platform security, fraud prevention, and service improvement, balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligation where processing is required to comply with applicable law (e.g., tax or regulatory recordkeeping).

Third Parties and Data Sharing

We share data only as necessary to operate the platform:

  • Payment processing Paystack (or other designated processors) handles subscription payments. Their processing of your payment data is governed by their own privacy policy.
  • Infrastructure and hosting providers used to host the platform and store data securely.
  • Market data providers NGX and other data licensors receive no personal data from Afrimetrics in this relationship — data flows from them to us, not the reverse.
  • Legal and regulatory disclosure we may disclose data where required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Afrimetrics, our users, or the public.
  • We do not sell personal data to advertisers or data brokers.

Any third party that processes personal data on our behalf is bound by a data processing agreement consistent with NDPA requirements.

Data Storage, Security, and Retention

  • We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures including encryption in transit, access controls, and hashed password storage — to protect your data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.
  • No system is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security but will notify affected users and the NDPC as required by law in the event of a data breach affecting personal data.
  • We retain personal data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal, accounting, or reporting obligations, or to resolve disputes. You may request earlier deletion subject to Section 8.
  • We use third-party cloud hosting and infrastructure providers to operate Afrimetrics. Depending on the provider and service involved, your data may be stored or processed in Nigeria or another country. Any international transfer is handled in accordance with the NDPA and the safeguards described in Section 10.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Afrimetrics uses cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Keep you logged in and remember preferences.
  • Understand how the platform is used, to improve performance and features.
  • Measure website traffic and usage through Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics. These services may collect device, browser, and usage information under their own privacy policies.
  • We do not use advertising or retargeting pixels.

You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling certain cookies may limit platform functionality.

Your Rights

Under the NDPA, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.
  • Restrict or object to certain processing, including for marketing purposes.
  • Data portability request your data in a structured, commonly used format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) if you believe your data has been mishandled.

Children's Privacy

Afrimetrics is not directed at individuals under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If we become aware that we have collected data from a minor without appropriate consent, we will delete it promptly.

International Data Transfers

If personal data is transferred outside Nigeria (for example, to a cloud hosting provider with servers abroad), we will ensure such transfers comply with NDPA requirements, including verifying that the receiving country or entity provides an adequate level of data protection, or by using appropriate safeguards such as contractual clauses.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. Where a change materially affects your rights or how we use your personal data, we will provide notice through the platform or by email before the change takes effect. The latest version will always be available on this page. Continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
